Hello. I am Carol Beckerle and I am running for Columbus City School Board. Our schools are at a critical juncture with a potential state takeover looming. Our school board needs members who know what’s happening, on the ground, in the district. As a veteran Columbus City School teacher, I am that person. The School Board needs members who are able to analyze complex issues, identify solutions and effectively promote the district. I am that person.
I have critical insight regarding the challenges of secondary, elementary & special education teachers in our district. For 13 years, despite many exceptional teachers’ best efforts, I've seen our district regularly fail its students. And yes, there is plenty of blame to go around: multi-generational poverty, oppressive state testing and budget constraints. The list is endless and the challenges are immense.
The good news is that there are things we can do right away. I have some instruction and staffing strategies that can improve our report card in the near term. We also need to enlist the support of community partners. These partnerships are vital to addressing the underlying issues of poverty that are the main sources of our district’s challenges.
Leadership begins at the top. We need a better functioning School Board that will address the needs of students, parents and teachers as a new superintendent implements her Plan for Success. I will be dedicated to providing that leadership. I hope that I can count on your support and your vote for Columbus City School Board this November.
